No I am not talking about typing a keyword into the search bar where it says "Google" What I am talking about is revolutionary.
While that little dandy widget is nice - it is by no means exhaustive - for commonly used search engines.
Most of can admit that the only time we change it is to look for something on Wikipedia because we hate spelling Wikipedia - :)
And while 6 common ones are standard practical ones outside of the biggest search monsters don't seem to exist. For the longest YouTube wasn't even available - I know right. So I came across this handy little time save.
I realized that I personally don't even use that dandy search widget it except for Google which becomes my default I find myself going to a webpage waiting for it to load - then going to the search bar on the page then typing in what i really finally wanted to know then waiting on it to load the results then clicking through to the result.
Well what I do and have been doing for over 2 years is using the Keyword Search that is built into Firefox. Some of you maybe saying "What?!" I know. This is real easy to set up. Here let me tell what I'm talking about. On my blog I have search for amazon - RIGHT CLICK ON IT - you will see a drop down menu come up - CLICK ADD A KEYWORD SEARCH FOR THIS - when that comes up simply only the letter "a" then save -
Now here's where the magic comes in go to where the URL is on the top of this page - LEFT CLICK ON IT- now type "a" space "hd webcam" ENTER
you should now see results on your screen a full listing of all webcams that Amazon offers.
The nerdy fun is just beginning and should be available regardless if you use chrome or safari. Now lets make it a little more practical. Lets simply go to - i don't know - www.imdb.com then find their search bar. Dont type anything - and lets do what we did before - again RIGHT CLICK on the field of the search bar and CLICK ADD A KEYWORD SEARCH FOR THIS type the letter "i" and then click save. You have just customized your browser.
The possibilities really are endless but I would caution you not to get to crazy with this. So I tried to put a list together for you based on one to two letter key strokes and likelihood of use.
How can you say thank you for my efforts, you ask? If you want to thank me just make sure you start using the "a for amazon" keyword instead of the widget or their website url. By doing that theyll toss some pennies my way every time you make a future purchase.
